Fashion moves so quickly that, unless you have a strong point of view, you can lose integrity. We try to contrast; life today is full of contrast… We have to change. The only way to do something in depth is to work hard. We think in the darkest moments, we need a break. Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.
Nostalgia is a very complicated subject for us. We’re attracted by nostalgia but we refuse it intellectually. Dressing up. People just don’t do it anymore. We have to change that. Today, we’re very happy about us, because we realized my dreams. We learned how to understand what people want. Attention to detail is of utmost importance when you want to look good. We think there is something about luxury - it’s not something people need, but it’s what they want. It really pulls at their heart.
We think it’s the responsibility of a designer to try to break rules and barriers. You have to stay true to your heritage; that’s what our brand is about. People have got more of a discerning eye. They appreciate cut and details, things that aren’t so obvious. They like things that have cachet and nonchalance. Our shows are about the complete synthesis that swallows it all. It’s a question of survival. We didn’t want to be a fashion designer, and for a good half of my career we didn’t like it. We always wanted to do other things.
We love to design things that people can actually buy. We’re staggered by what a sweater costs today. Dressing up. People just don’t do it anymore. We have to change that. Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself. We are not interested in shock tactics. We just want to make beautiful clothes. We believe that our clothes can give people a better image of themselves - that it can increase their feelings of confidence and happiness.
We think it’s the responsibility of a designer to try to break rules and barriers. We’ve treated the waistcoat as if it were a corset, so that it becomes the first layer in the process of putting clothes on the body. There is constant motion between layering and revealing. Delete the negative; accentuate the positive! In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different. There are only three things we can do - make fashion, decorate a house, and entertain people.
